STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team concludes the 2023 season on the road when it travels to take on BYU on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, at the Gail Miller Field.
The Tigers (10-27, 1-11) open the three-game series against the Cougars (insert record) with a doubleheader and will close the series with a single game on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. PT, while the nightcap is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.
The Tigers earned a dominating win to open the final home series of the season last weekend, defeating Saint Mary's 8-1 at Bill Simoni Field. Rian Dirmeyer shined offensively for the Tigers, recording a season-high three hits in four at-bats, notching her first-ever multi-home run game, and racking up four RBI.
Vanessa Strong was brilliant in the circle, recording her fifth win, pitching seven stellar innings, and allowing just one run on three hits. Tallying her team-leading fourth complete game of the season, Strong struck out three batters and gave up one walk.
BYU is coming off a 7-2 loss to #2 UCLA at home last Monday and enters the weekend on a four-game conference winning streak after sweeping San Diego last weekend.
Huntyr Ava and Ailana Agbayani have established themselves as two of the best hitters in the conference, ranking third and fourth in the WCC in batting average. Ava leads the Cougars with a .356 batting average, while Agbayani is batting .340. Agbayani leads the Cougars in hits by a wide margin with 48 and has been a force on the basepath with 12 stolen bases.
Kayson Korth has accumulated a team-best 2.70 earned-run average, ranking third-best in the conference. Korth, the Cougars' workhorse in the circle this season, has earned a 15-7 record and has recorded 150 strikeouts in 134.2 innings pitched.
The Tigers have grabbed two wins over the Cougars since the 2010 season, with the last coming in a narrow 2-0 triumph on April 14, 2018, at Bill Simoni Field.
