STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team continues its road trip when it faces off against Santa Clara on Saturday, April 22, and Sunday, April 23, in a three-game series at the Santa Clara Softball Stadium.
The Tigers (9-21, 0-6), coming off a three-game set at San Diego last weekend, take on the Broncos (18-21, 0-6) for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon, followed by a single game to finish the series on Sunday.
Delaney Scully led the Tigers offensively last weekend, tallying a team-high four hits and one RBI in three games. In the series' final game against the Toreros, Scully recorded her sixth multi-hit game of the season, leading the team with two hits.
Hannah Glad and Avery Croxall performed well in the circle, combining for six innings pitched and only one run allowed. Glad earned the start, her fifth of the season, and pitched five strong innings, allowing only one run on six hits. Croxall closed the game with one strikeout in one inning of work.
Glad ranks fourth in the conference in earned-run average and is one of the six players to post a sub-three earned-run average this season.
Santa Clara enters the weekend series on a seven-game losing streak after narrowly falling at California, 9-8 in 13 innings last Wednesday. The Broncos have also dropped their first six conference contests, getting swept by BYU and Saint Mary's.
Ashley Trierweiler leads the Broncos offensively and has established herself as the league's best hitter. Batting a lead-best .527, Trierweiler has recorded 59 hits in 112 at-bats and 19 extra-base hits in 39 games. Her career-high .830 slugging percentage also leads the conference by a wide margin.
Hannah Edwards leads the team and ranks 10th in the WCC with a 3.38 earned-run average. In 68.1 innings pitched, Edwards has accumulated a 6-5 record, allowing only 33 earned runs on 84 hits.
The Tigers have dominated the Broncos since the 2006 season, tallying 35 wins in 46 games. Splitting the series in the last two seasons, the Broncos took advantage, grabbing two of the three games played during the 2022 campaign at Bill Simoni Field. In that series, the two teams split the doubleheader before the Broncos earned a narrow 4-3 win to close the series.
