Softball Takes on San Diego on the Road

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team competes in its first conference road series of the season when it travels to take on San Diego on Saturday, April 15, in a West Coast Conference doubleheader at the USD Softball Complex.

The first game of the doubleheader will start at noon, while the nightcap will kick off shortly after the conclusion of the opening contest.

The Tigers (9-18, 0-3) opened the conference slate last weekend and are coming off a three-game series against defending champion LMU at Bill Simoni Field. Pitching was a key factor for the Tigers throughout the weekend series, with Scarlett Lloyd pacing the team in the opening game. Llyod held the Lions to their lowest hit total of the season, finishing her best outing with a season-high five strikeouts.

Delaney Scully, Rian Dirmeyer, and Carly Lucchetti led the team offensively, combining for seven of the team's nine hits throughout the weekend. Scully accumulated a team-high three hits during the series, while Lucchetti and Dirmeyer added two apiece.

San Diego enters the weekend after dropping two of three games last weekend at Saint Mary's. The Toreros (15-23-1, 1-2) dropped the opening game to the Gaels last Friday and then split the doubleheader the following day, earning a 7-0 win in the process.

Izzy Owen leads the Toreros offensively through 39 games this season, tallying a team-leading .381 batting average. Ranking second in the league in batting average, Owen has accumulated 45 hits, nine extra-base hits, 18 RBI, and a .458 slugging percentage. The redshirt senior from Manteca, Calif., has recorded a hit in five of the last six contests while going three-for-nine at the plate against Saint Mary's.

Courtney Rose, the Toreros standout pitcher, leads the team and ranks third in the WCC with a 2.60 earned-run average. In 70 innings pitched, Rose has allowed only 26 earned runs and has recorded a team-leading 57 strikeouts.

The Toreros have dominated the head-to-head series since the 2008 season, earning 17 wins in 24 games. The Tigers last defeated the Toreros on April 10, 2021, in a 2-1 victory at the USD Softball Complex.
