STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team returns to the field starting Friday, Feb. 17, as it competes in the CBU Classic at Jim C. Funk Stadium.
The Tigers (0-4) will open the tournament with a doubleheader against CSUN and California Baptist at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 10 a.m. Saturday matchup with Colorado State. Play will continue on Saturday with a semifinal contest at either 3 or 5 p.m.
The third-place game will be played on Sunday at 10 a.m., while the championship game starting at 12:30 p.m.
The Tigers are coming off a four-game swing at the NorCal Kickoff, facing off against Seattle U, UC Davis, Utah Valley, and Sacramento State.
Talissa Montez led the team throughout the weekend, accumulating a .417 batting average with five hits in 12 at-bats. Montez also scored a run and tallied one stolen base.
Carly Lucchetti scored three of the Tigers' four runs throughout the tournament, while
Allie Capello and
Jordan Hayes led the freshman newcomers with a combined seven hits.
CSUN picked up two wins at the SDSU Season Kickoff, defeating Memphis and Northern Illinois. Mikayla Carman leads the Matadors (2-3) as the only player to start all five games to start the season. Carman has accumulated a team-high .471 batting average with eight hits in 17 at-bats.
California Baptist kicked off its 2023 campaign at the Puerta Vallarta College Classic in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. The Lancers (3-2) picked up wins over Wisconsin and Maryland during the tournament and then knocked off UC Riverside, 7-1, this past Wednesday.
Priscilla Estrada leads the team with a .389 batting average, accumulating seven hits throughout the season's first five games. Deja Westbrook picked up three hits during the Puerta Vallarta College Classic and led the team with a .667 slugging percentage.
Colorado State enters the CBU Classic after competing in the New Mexico State Invitational. The Rams (3-2) earned wins over Bradley (twice) and New Mexico State throughout the five-game tournament.
Molly Gates led the Rams with a .556 batting average, with two home runs and four RBI. Gates also posted a .889 slugging percentage, an on-base percentage of .619, and four RBI.
