STOCKTON, Calif. – The #14 Pacific men's water polo team (9-4) hosts a pair of games as part of Homecoming and Family Weekend, welcoming in #15 Cal Baptist (13-12) on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. and #10 UC Santa Barbara (13-8) on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m. at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
The Tigers look forward to their first conference game of the season against the Lancers, who played the first WCC men's water polo contest in history, edging Santa Clara, 15-14, on Oct. 5.
Pacific is 12-0 all-time against Cal Baptist with the Tigers taking the most recent matchup on Sept. 17, 2022, by a score of 16-7 at the Aggie Roundup in Davis, Calif. In the winning effort, fifth-year senior
Rene Peralta collected two goals and three assists. Junior
Gil Gvishi also added a pair of goals and an assist.
This year's meeting at home marks just the third time since 2005 the Tigers will host the Lancers, who last made the trip to Stockton in 2008. Pacific edged Cal Baptist, 10-9, in that contest.
Riding a five-game win streak into the matchup, Cal Baptist's offense is led by senior Cameron Cullen with a team-best 43 goals and 72 points through 25 games. In goal, senior Trevor Benge has earned the bulk of the starts this year, owning a 12.84 GAA with 167 saves in 22 games.
The Tigers are 19-20 all-time against the Gauchos, splitting a pair of games during the 2022 campaign. In 2021 at home, Pacific defeated UC Santa Barbara by a 9-8 margin. Pacific has won three of the last four against the Gauchos and six of the last nine matchups.
Carrying a three-game win streak, the Gauchos are led by junior Dash McFarland with a team-high 63 goals, which ranks second overall in the nation.
For the Tigers, Gvishi will look to extend his current season-long point streak. While Gvishi leads Pacific with 31 goals and 73 shots, his 2.4 goals per game rank fourth in the conference. Graduate student
Stefan Vavic paces the Tigers in assists (18) and points (43). Vavic's 1.4 assists per game place him in a tie for fourth in the conference.
In goal for Pacific, senior
Lewis Gale has started all 13 games, holding an 8-3 record with 83 saves and 19 steals.
