STOCKTON, Calif. – Coming off of an unbeaten non-conference schedule, the Pacific women's soccer team (5-0-6) looks to continue its success in the conference schedule, starting with Santa Clara (4-6-1).
The Tigers defeated the Broncos 2-0 in their most recent matchup, a non-conference contest at Knoles Field. The win was the first for Pacific over Santa Clara in program history.
"Our players are well aware of how good the teams in the WCC are and the challenges they present, but they are more than ready for the opportunity to play the conference portion of our season," said Co-Head Coach
J.J. Wozniak. "We are looking forward to the WCC season getting started tomorrow, and no better way than at Santa Clara."
Jenae Packard is tied for the conference lead in assists with six and tied for the team lead in goals with three; both numbers are career highs for Packard.
Anaya Shelton has scored three goals in her first collegiate season and added two assists as she is second on the team in points.
In goal,
Brenna Crump leads the conference in saves with 52, nine more than second place. Crump was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week after recording nine saves and a shutout over Santa Clara.
Santa Clara is 1-2-1 in its last four matchups, with a 4-0 win over San Francisco and a 2-0 loss to the Tigers. The Broncos went 8-1 in conference play last season on their way to the College Cup. Santa Clara's only loss was a 2-0 result against Portland.
"They are extremely well coached and are such a quality group year in and year out, with this year being no different," said Co-Head Coach
Danesha Adams. "We believe in us and what we continue to develop here within our soccer program. We can't wait to get after it in our conference opener."
