Softball Travels to Fresno State for a Weekday Matchup

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team hits the road and travels to Fresno State to take on the Bulldogs in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 23.

Last weekend Pacific competed in the Mizuno Classic, taking on Marist and Iowa State at Bill Simoni Field. The Tigers won their third contest of the weekend, defeating the Cyclones 4-3 on March 18. Trailing after the top half of the first inning, The Tigers rallied in the bottom half of the inning and took the lead due to an RBI double from Reagan Hamilton. After a walk and a Lucchetti single, Hamilton sent a shot to left field, scoring two runs, as the Tigers took a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers extended the lead to 3-1 before the Cyclones rallied in the seventh inning to tie the game heading into the final half frame. Hamilton, however, came through again and recorded a walk-off single to left field, scoring Emily Budelli in the bottom half of the seventh inning to earn the win.

Hamilton had a productive weekend for the Tigers, recording five hits in four games, including tallying two home runs against Marist on March 19, and is now fourth on the team with 21 hits. She has accumulated a .276 batting average through 28 games this season, and after a six-RBI weekend, the sophomore from Taft, Calif., now leads the team in RBI with 18.

Fresno State has struggled this season as the team has lost six of its last eight games. The Bulldogs currently sit in ninth place in the Mountain West standings with a 5-21 record. Keahilele Mattson leads the team in multiple statistical categories, including batting average, runs scored, hits, and slugging percentage. Mattson has accumulated a .327 batting average and is the lone member on the team to have a batting average of over .300.

Pacific faced off against Fresno State twice during the 2021 season and fell in both. The Tigers opened the 2021 campaign against the Bulldogs and dropped a 9-0 five-inning game in the season opener and narrowly fell 4-3 in the second game of the doubleheader. Since the 2006 season, the Tigers have had three wins against the Bulldogs, including taking two of three matchups from 2011 to 2014.
