Box Score Davis, Calif. – The No. 7 University of the Pacific men's water polo team snapped a two-game losing skid with a 13-12 win over No. 19 Cal Baptist on Saturday at the Aggie Invite.
The Tigers (3-3) outscored the Lancers, 5-1 in the second quarter after trailing 3-2 thru the opening quarter. Two of the five goals in the quarter came on extra-man opportunities for Pacific.
Jeremie Cote led the Pacific offense with three goals and two assists, plus four teammates –
Djordje Stanic,
Bogdan Djerkovic,
Gil Gvishi,
Mihailo Vukazic – had two goals. Pacific goalkeeper
John Hedges had 11 saves and two steals for the Tigers.
The Lancers (2-7) were led by a three-goal effort and three-assist effort from Zach Lowery, plus PJ McDonough had three goals in the loss.
First Quarter
Mihailo Vukazic put the Tigers on the scoreboard after an early 1-0 deficit with a goal at the 4:39 mark of the opening quarter. He got his second goal of the quarter with 1:24 left in the quarter to put Pacific ahead for the first time on the day. CBU scored twice in the final 90 seconds for a 3-2 lead after the opening eight minutes.
Second Quarter
Matthew Hosmer won the sprint to start the quarter and was rewarded with a power play goal to tie the game at 3. After a steal by
Bogdan Djerkovic, the Tigers regained the lead when
Jeremie Cote put one to the back of the net for a 4-3 advantage for Pacific. Pacific stretched its advantage to two on its second power-play goal of the quarter when
Eli Lule scored with 6:00 left in the quarter. The Tigers remained in front for the rest of the contest.
Third Quarter
The two teams traded goals throughout the quarter with the Tigers and Lancers each scoring four goals in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
After seeing CBU cut the lead to two, 12-10, the Tigers
Bogdan Djerkovic put Pacific ahead 13-10 with 4:30 left to play. The Lancers rallied with two goals in the closing minutes but were unable to draw any closer.
Next, Pacific will wrap up the Aggie Invite with a matchup against Cal on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
