THINGS TO KNOW:
  • Playing their last road contests of the 2021 season, the Tigers notched their first Saturday victory since Apr. 17 over Long Beach State when they defeated the Lions, 3-2, last Saturday May 22.
  • Aiming to round out their campaign on a high note, junior James Arakawa ranks fourth in the WCC in batting average with a .347 mark heading into the weekend while sophomore Thomas Gavello is also fourth with a .571 slugging percentage. Impressively, junior Jeremy Lea also sits second in the conference with three triples on the year.
  • With a win in Thursday's opener, Pacific could notch their fourth series-opening win in their last five opportunities as the Tigers took down Saint Mary's, San Francisco, Santa Clara and BYU in their first shot before falling to LMU in the opener last weekend.

SCOUTING THE WAVES:
  • Last weekend, Pepperdine also made their final road trip of the season when they traveled to Provo for a three-game set with BYU. Following three home runs in game one, the Waves took down the Cougars in game one before dropping the final two contests.
  • Flexing their muscle at the plat, the Waves have the top two home run hitters in the WCC as Billy Cook (16) and Justin Lutes (13) sit atop the leaderboard heading into the weekend. Additionally, Reese Alexiades currently paces the conference with a .388 batting average while Ryan Johnson's 41 RBI is third best in the WCC. As a team, Pepperdine leads the conference in total home runs with 56 with the team also ranking third with a .267 overall clip.
  • Overall, the Waves hold the all-time series lead against Pacific with a 19-15 record. However, the Tigers took two of three from Pepperdine the last time the two teams met in 2019. Notably, the home team has won the series in each of their past two meetings.
