THINGS TO KNOW:
  • After taking down Santa Clara in two of three contests for their first conference series victory of the season to begin May, the Tigers could not repeat their success against BYU last weekend as Pacific took the opener against the Cougars before dropping their final two matchups at Klein Family Field.
  • Heading into the weekend, junior James Arakawa currently sits third in the WCC in batting average (.355) and hits per game (1.34) while sophomore Thomas Gavello also ranks second in hit by pitches (15) and fourth in slugging percentage (.578). Defensively, senior catcher Joe Fitzhugh is currently tied for tenth in Division I with 17 runners caught stealing.
  • As a team, Pacific currently paces the conference in total double plays (41) as they also rank 16th in the nation in this category. Additionally, their 0.91 double players per game also sits atop the WCC and is good for 14th in Division I. Overall, the Tigers have also done a steady job of nabbing baserunners as they lead the conference with 24 runners caught stealing on the year, with their .308 runner caught stealing percentage also ranking second in the conference as of Friday morning.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
  • For LMU, this weekend's series against Pacific will mark their last home stand of the year as the Lions enter the matchups as winners of three-straight conference series and four out of their last five against WCC foes.
  • Sitting in sixth place in the current conference standings, the duo of Julian Bury and Kenny Oyama continues to impress by pacing LMU in batting average, on-base percentage and hits. Overall, Oyama's 16 stolen bases is good for third in the WCC and 68th in Division I.
  • On the mound, the Lions are led by Josh Agnew, who is slated to toe the rubber to begin the series. This season, the right hander tops the team in wins while also sitting in the top five in ERA and innings pitched. Over his last three starts, Agnew has gone at least 6.2 innings in each appearance with a combined eleven strikeouts across the three outings.
