Pacific Softball ready for non-conference game at SJSU

STOCKTON, Calif. - Coming off an 8-1 win on Sunday at Sacramento State, the University of the Pacific Softball team is set to play a non-conference game at San Jose State on Wednesday afternoon.

THINGS TO KNOW
  • On Tuesday, Carly Lucchetti was named University Credit Union WCC Player of the Week. It was Lucchetti's second career weekly honor from the conference. Through four games in the Capital Classic, went 10-for-17 in the Capital Classic with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs, along with three stolen bases. On Sunday against Sacramento State, Lucchetti went 4-for-4 in game two. Following the most recent tournament, Lucchetti has a .447 batting average. 
  • Also receiving a weekly honor from the WCC was Vanessa Strong, who was named University Credit Union WCC Pitcher of the Week. In the circle, Strong had a solid showing in the Capital Classic. She pitched 5.1 total innings in two appearances over the weekend not allowing an earned run. In the final game of the tournament for Pacific, Strong made her first start of the season, picking up the win in an 8-1 victory for the Tigers. Strong had five total strikeouts against Sacramento State on Sunday. 
  • Hanna Krosky pitched two scoreless innings to finish Sunday's 8-1 win for the Tigers.
  • Marissa Fabian hit her first career home run last Saturday at UC Davis. 
  • Sunday's 8-1 win for Pacific against Sacramento State snapped a four-game losing streak in which the last three of the streak were one-run losses. 
  • In the last meeting between Pacific and SJSU, the Tigers defeated the Spartans 3-1 on March 3, 2020. Lucchetti had an RBI double in the game, and Myka Sutherlin was the winning pitcher allowing only one run and had eight strikeouts. 
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • Going into Wednesday, the Spartans have lost their last three, most recently a 14-0 loss to 3rd-ranked UCLA. 
  • Arianna Miranda had SJSU's only hit on Sunday against UCLA. 
  • With a .438 batting average, Alyssa Graham is the top hitter for the Spartans and has three triples. 
  • The two pitchers leading in innings pitched for SJSU are Jenessa Ulleque with a 4.11 ERA and Caroline Bowman with a 7.43 ERA. Also with one start for the Spartans is Jackie Rookaird.
