Softball Set for Capital Classic

STOCKTON, Calif. - After hosting the Libby Matson Tournament last week, the University of the Pacific Softball team is set to play four games in the Capital Classic this weekend. The Tigers play a doubleheader at UC Davis on Saturday followed by a doubleheader at Sacramento State on Sunday.

THINGS TO KNOW

  • The Tigers went 2-2 in the Libby Matson Tournament, with a pair of wins against Idaho State and a pair of losses to Nevada.
  • Hanna Krosky went 5-for-11 in the tournament with a double, home run and three RBIs.
  • In the circle, Bethany Hammer pitched 15.0 innings last week with eight strikeouts.
  • Picking up her first win at Pacific last week was Amiyah Aponte, who entered in the Tigers' 7-4 victory over Idaho State last Saturday, with five shutout innings in relief, striking out five batters faced.
  • Jessica Mabrey hit a three-run homer in in a 7-4 comeback win for Pacific against Idaho State, which started the rally. Following Mabrey's home run, Rian Dirmeyer hit her first career home run to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning. The Tigers took the lead in the sixth inning on Krosky's first home run of the season.
  • Pacific has lost three straight games against UC Davis, most recently on March 10, 2020 - an 8-3 loss.
  • Against Sacramento State in 2020, the Tigers split a pair of games against the Hornets.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES

  • UC Davis already played two games in the Capital Classic, splitting a doubleheader on Thursday against Sacramento State, winning the first game, 4-0 and falling 6-0 in game two. The Aggies started the season 0-8, but picked up their first win of 2021 on February 24 against Saint Mary's.
  • Sommer Kisling is the leading hitter for UC Davis, batting .375 with 15 hits.
  • With two home runs each is Sarah Starks and Megan Bower. Bower has a team-high eight RBIs on the season.
  • Kenedi Brown has the lowest ERA for UC Davis at 3.99 with 46 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched. Her record on the season is 1-4 with a save.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS

  • Through Friday, the Hornets are 4-9, and 1-1 in the Capital Classic.
  • With three home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs on the season is Lewa Day, hitting .259.
  • Throwing for 38.2 innings from the circle with eight starts on the season is Marissa Bertuccio. She also has 29 strikeouts.
