STOCKTON, Calif. – On Friday and Saturday this week, the University of the Pacific Softball team will host the 2021 Libby Matson Tournament, which takes place at Bill Simoni Field on the Pacific campus in Stockton. Along with the Tigers, Idaho State and Nevada will play in the tournament.

THINGS TO KNOW
- The Tigers went 2-2 in last week's Fresno State Kickoff Classic. They lost both games to the Bulldogs on Friday, by scores of 9-0 (5 innings) and 4-3. Pacific rebounded with a pair of 6-5 wins on Saturday against UC Santa Barbara.
- Freshman infielder Rian Dirmeyer leads Pacific in hitting with a .556 average, going 5-for-9 with two doubles and two triples. She also has a team-high four RBIs through four games.
- Pacific's only home run this season thus far is off the bat of junior Myka Sutherlin.
- With 8.2 innings in the circle, redshirt junior Bethany Hammer has a 2.08 ERA with eight strikeouts and a pair of saves.
- The last time the Bengals and Tigers met was on February 9, 2019. Pacific won 5-3 in the Cal State Fullerton Titan Classic.
- It's been less than a year since Pacific and Nevada met, as the Tigers took the previous matchup, 5-4 on March 6, 2020.
- Also in 2020, Pacific defeated Nevada, 3-2 at Bill Simoni Field in the Libby Matson Tournament.
SCOUTING THE BENGALS
- Idaho State went 7-14 in a shortened 2020 season.
- Infielder Emma Bordenkecher returns to the 2021 roster, after a 2020 season in which she led the team in batting with a .492 batting average with 11 doubles two triples and three home runs.
- Mailee Newman returns to the Bengals in 2021 as the team's RBI leader last season with 13 and hit three home runs.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- Entering the tournament, Nevada is 7-3 overall, coming of a 6-5 victory against Montana in the Dixie State Classic this past Sunday.
- Lauren Gutierrez is the Wolfpack's leading hitter, batting .455 with two home runs, a double and a triple and 11 RBIs.
- Chelie Senini has three stolen bases this season and a .333 batting average.
- The two pitchers to appear the most innings in the circle for Nevada this season are Blake Craft and Kendall Fritz. Craft has a 2.36 ERA in 32.2 innings of action with 21 strikeouts. Fritz has 35 strikeouts in 28.0 innings of work.
- Nevada and ISU last met on March 8, 2015, as the Wolfpack won 9-8 in eight innings.
