Softball Heads to Davis For Midweek Clash with Aggies

STOCKTON, Calif. – Fresh off tournament play, the Pacific softball team (15-9, 0-0 WCC) will head to Davis for a 4:00 p.m. midweek game with UC Davis from La Rue Field.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Pacific went 2-3 at the Wolf Pack Classic this weekend with wins over Nevada (5-4) and Sacramento State (3-0).
  • Bethany Hammer struck out six in the win against the Hornets, going to full seven innings to earn herself WCC Pitcher of the Week. It's the second Pitcher of the Week honor for the Tigers in three weeks (Myka Sutherlin, February 24).
HANNA'S HITTING
  • Hanna Krosky went 8 for 16 at last weekend's DeMarini with six RBIs, three runs and four
  • The 2019 NJCAA Division II Player of the Year currently sports a .407 batting average in 59 plate appearances with a team-high 24 hits to go along with 11 RBIs.
  • Krosky has been an offensive asset for the Tigers from the start, going 6 for 10 at the season-opening Titan Classic with two runs and two RBIs.
  • Krosky, who has started all 19 games this season for the Tigers, owns a .542 slugging percentage and a .426 on-base percentage.
NEARLY PITCHER PERFECT
  • Bethany Hammer and Myka Sutherlin both rank in the top three in the West Coast Conference in ERA. Hammer sports a 1.14 ERA to lead all pitchers, while Sutherlin carries a 1.97.
  • Pacific has claimed two of the five WCC Pitcher of the Week awards so far this season, in Hammer and Sutherlin.
  • Sutherlin has already reached a career high this season, fanning 13 batters in Pacific's 4-0 win over UIC on February 21 in the Bulldog Classic.
  • Sutherlin was named the WCC Pitcher of the Week on February 24, going 12.0 innings in shutout wins over UIC and UC Santa Barbara at the Bulldog Classic with 16 strikeouts. She's the first Tiger pitcher to earn the honor since Kenya Lindstrom in the first weekend of last season, and the first Tiger to earn a Player or Pitcher of the Week award since Carly Lucchetti on April 22 of last season. She registered eight strikeouts last Tuesday in an impressive 3-1 home win over Mountain West favorite San Jose State.
CALL ME MABREY
  • Jessica Mabrey is the reigning WCC Freshman of the Year after hitting .273 with 36 hits, five home runs, 25 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .477 in 2019.
  • Mabrey leads the team with a .652 slugging percentage while collecting 10 RBIs on the year in 46 plate appearances.
A DISTINGUISHED DUGOUT
  • Brian Kolze returns for his 28thseason as Pacific's softball coach. Kolze is the longest tenured coach in the WCC and is ranked 20th among active coaches in Division I in terms of tenure. He has a career record of 771-713-1 and a winning percentage of .520.
  • Hailey Decker is a fresh face in the dugout, joining Pacific's coaching staff in the fall of 2019. Decker, a middle infielder, played for two elite programs during college, beginning her collegiate career at Nebraska in 2013 and helping the Huskers to a 45-16 record en route to an appearance at the Women's College World Series. Decker transferred to Oregon as a junior and was a starter for the Ducks in the 2015 WCWS, earning All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention and First Team All-Pacific Region.
