Upstart Tigers Head to Reno for Wolf Pack Classic

STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific softball (13-6, 0-0 WCC) fresh off an impressive 3-1 win over national power San Jose State, will look to keep it going this weekend as the Tigers dive back into tournament play at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Pacific went an impressive 4-1 at the DeMarini Invitational this past weekend while recording win number 10 on February 28, the quickest the program has achieved the feat since the 2013 season. On Tuesday, Pacific played in its first midweek game of the 2020 season with a 3-1 win over preseason Mountain West favorite 
HANNA'S HITTING
  • Hanna Krosky went 8 for 16 at the DeMarini Invitational this past weekend with six RBIs, three runs and four doubles to put her at third in the conference with a .439 batting average through 13 games and 41 plate appearances.
  • Krosky opened the tournament on an offensive tear, going 2 for 3 from the dish with three RBIs and a run in Pacific's 6-1 tournament-opening win over Rhode Island. She finished off her tournament in style with three RBIs and two runs in back-to-back wins over Saint Francis on February 29 and March 1.
  • In five games in the South Bay, the Phoenix native compiled a .500 on-base percentage with a .750 slugging percentage to help the Tigers reach the ten-win mark on February 28, the fastest Pacific softball squad to hit ten wins since 2013.
MIGHTY MYKA
  • Myka Sutherlin leads the WCC with a 1.05 ERA and is second in the conference with 48 strikeouts in 40.0 innings pitched, averaging 1.2 per frame. Her ERA is good for 32ndin the country.
  • The sophomore has already reached a career high this season, fanning 13 batters in Pacific's 4-0 win over UIC on February 21 in the Bulldog Classic, the most by a WCC pitcher this season.
  • Sutherlin was named the WCC Pitcher of the Week on February 24, going 12.0 innings in shutout wins over UIC and UC Santa Barbara at the Bulldog Classic with 16 strikeouts. She's the first Tiger pitcher to earn the honor since Kenya Lindstrom in the first weekend of last season, and the first Tiger to earn a Player or Pitcher of the Week award since Carly Lucchetti on April 22 of last season.
  • Sutherlin registered eight strikeouts against the Spartans on Tuesday, lowering her conference-leading ERA to 1.04. 
CALL ME MABREY
  • Jessica Mabrey is the reigning WCC Freshman of the Year after hitting .273 with 36 hits, five home runs, 25 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .477 in 2019.
  • Mabrey has gone yard twice this year to lead the team, most recently in the Tigers' 10-2 win over Saint Francis on Saturday that saw Pacific put up a five spot in the first inning.
A DISTINGUISHED DUGOUT
  • Brian Kolze returns for his 28thseason as Pacific's softball coach. Kolze is the longest tenured coach in the WCC and is ranked 20th among active coaches in Division I in terms of tenure. He has a career record of 771-713-1 and a winning percentage of .520. 
  • Hailey Decker is a fresh face in the dugout, joining Pacific's coaching staff in the fall of 2019. Decker, a middle infielder, played for two elite programs during college, beginning her collegiate career at Nebraska in 2013 and helping the Huskers to a 45-16 record en route to an appearance at the Women's College World Series. Decker transferred to Oregon as a junior and was a starter for the Ducks in the 2015 WCWS, earning All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention and First Team All-Pacific Region.
