Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tigers Have Off Night at No.2/1 Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Pacific men's basketball team (15-8, 3-4) was defeated by No. 2/1 Gonzaga, 92-59, on Saturday night at the McCarthey Center.

Struggling to find their rhythm on both ends of the floor, the Tigers shot 35 percent overall from the field while six different players also tallied double-digits in points for Gonzaga.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

First Half-
  • Just 25 seconds into play, freshman Pierre Crockrell II scored the first points of the game on a floater in the paint to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
  • Unfortunately, this would be the only time that Pacific would hold a lead over the Bulldogs as Gonzaga then caught fire to take a 13-6 lead at the first media timeout.
  • Staying within striking distance of the Zags, sophomore Jahbril Price-Noel knocked down a three-pointer at 12:14 to keep UOP within eleven points of their WCC rival (24-13).
  • Following back-to-back buckets from junior James Hampshire and Crockrell, the Tigers cut the Gonzaga deficit to just ten with 8:45 remaining in the half.
  • With less than two minutes on the clock, senior Jahlil Tripp nailed his fourth three of the season, keeping Pacific on the heels of Gonzaga (43-31).
  • Heading into the locker room, the Tigers trailed the nationally-ranked Bulldogs, 48-33.

Second Half-
  • Unable to find any momentum coming out of the break, Pacific did not record their first points of the second half until two free throws by Price-Noel at the 16:36 mark.
  • Attempting to make a comeback, junior Jeremiah Bailey knocked down his lone shot from behind-the-arc at 13:42.
  • Defending their home court, Gonzaga continued to pour it on the Tigers as the game wound down, outscoring Pacific 44-26 in the second half alone.
  • Ultimately, UOP would fall to No. 2/1 Gonzaga by a final score of 92-59.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Tripp was tabbed the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after recording his sixth 20-point game of the season with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
  • Crockrell finished with his second-highest point total of the season, scoring 10 points and reaching double figures for just the second time this year.
  • Providing a spark when needed, Pacific led Gonzaga in bench points, 20-18.

UP NEXT: Pacific will aim to break their three-game losing streak next Thursday, Jan. 30 when they host LMU at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The Tigers will also be celebrating faculty and staff appreciation night in addition to student athlete academic recognition. The game will be broadcast live at 7:00 pm on The WCC Network.
