HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Pacific men's basketball team fell to South Dakota, 72-62, in the 55th Annual Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic opener on Friday evening.
The Tigers are now 1-1 on the season after also claiming its first victory of the season against Stanislaus State just three days ago. South Dakota improves to 1-0.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
First Half
- South Dakota controlled nearly the entire first half, leading for just under 18 minutes.
- The Coyotes opened with an 8-2 run, but a three pointer by Daniss Jenkins at 18:24 put the Tigers back within three points (8-5) of the Coyotes.
- The Tigers found themselves down by five points less than three minutes later. At a 12-7 disadvantage, the Tigers went on a 4-0 run from 15:36-10:51 and tied the game at 12-12.
- The Tigers took their first lead (25-24) at 4:22, following a three-pointer by Jeremiah Bailey. The 8-3 Pacific scoring run began with a made three pointer and two made free throws by Jenkins.
- South Dakota regained the lead and held it for the remainder of the half, wrapping up the first 20 minutes with a 33-31 lead over the Tigers.
- As a team, Pacific hit 5-of-10 attempts from beyond the arc and was 12-for-27 (44.4%) from the field.
- The Tigers out-scored the Coyotes in the paint (14-6) and off of the bench (11-3).
Second Half
- Pacific took its largest lead of the contest at 17:25, following an 8-point scoring run. Jahlil Tripp scored five points during the run.
- The score was tied once more (39-39) and the Tigers took the lead (51-50) one final time at the 8:25 mark, before eventually falling to the Coyotes.
- The Tigers went to the line 14 times in the second half, making 10 of their attempts for a 71.4 free throw percentage.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Justin Moore was tabbed the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after leading the Tigers with 16 points, five assists, and four steals. Moore went 6-for-11 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free throw line in 35 minutes of play.
- Jahlil Tripp shot 50 percent (5-10) from the field and 75 percent (3-4) from the charity stipe en route to 13 total points. In addition, the senior from Brooklyn, N.Y. pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
- Daniss Jenkins knocked down a new career-high of 10 points, while also dishing out three assists
