Tigers Bounce Back with 76-54 Win Over Florida A&M

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Pacific men's basketball team scored 43 points off of the bench en route to a 76-54 victory over Florida A&M in its second contest at the 55th Annual Outrigger Resort Rainbow Classic. 

The Tigers improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Rattlers fall to 0-3.

 

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

First Half

  • Pacific was on the scoreboard first, following a made layup by Jahlil Tripp.  Florida A&M answered right back, scoring consecutive three-pointers to take its largest lead of the half.
  • Following an 8-8 tie at the 15:00 mark, the Tigers went on a 12-3 run that led to a nine-point lead (20-11). 
  • The Two squads would battle point-for-point between 9:00-7:38. Following the under-eight media timeout, FAMU went on a 9-2 run that put the Rattlers back within two points of the Tigers (28-26).
  • Florida A&M kept the score within four points for nearly the remainder of the half. With just 12 seconds left and a three-point lead, Pierre Crockrell II scored his fifth and sixth points of the game, on a layup to extend the Tigers lead to five points (33-28). 
  • The Tigers struggled to score from long range and from the free throw line, shooting just 30% and 36.4%, respectively. Pacific made up for it in the field, out-shooting the Rattlers 43.3%-36.0%.
     

Second Half

  • It was all Tigers in the second half, nearly scoring twice as much as the FAMU (43-26)
  • Pacific outscored Florida A&M, 17-11 through the first 10 minutes to extend its lead to 14 points (53-39).
  • FAMU would only come within 18 points on four more occasions and eventually fell to its largest deficit of 26 points (74-48) with just over two minutes left to play. 
  • As a team, Pacific shot a stellar 62.1% from the field.

     

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

  • Amari McCray returned as the Tigers top scorer, knocking down five shots from the field and two from the free throw line for a team-leading 12 points. The junior from Ruston, La. also pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Justin Moore and Gary Chivichyan each totaled 11 points on the day, while Broc Finstuen rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points. 
  • Crockrell II came off the bench and totaled eight points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals, earning him City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game honors. 
  • Tripp nearly recorded his first double-double of the season after collecting eight points and eight rebounds. In addition, Tripp also had three steals and two assists.
