BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of the Pacific baseball team takes down #12 Indiana, 2-1, on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 7-8 on the season, while the Hoosiers fall to 9-4 overall.

The Tigers took a quick 1-0 lead at the top of the first. Bradley Jekich led off and reached first on a walk. With two outs, James Free stepped up to bat and singled through the left side to score Jekich for the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the third, the Hoosiers tied the game up 1-1 off back to back doubles. Logan Kaletha led off with a double down the right field line. Matt Lloyd followed suit with a double down the left field line to push Kaletha home for the tying run.

At the top of the ninth with two outs, Lucas Halstead walked followed by Carter Hayes hitting a single to left field. Wyatt Hoffman came in to pinch run for Halstead before Keaton Glover singled to shortstop to advance Hayes and Hoffman. Hoffman then scored on a throwing error by the Hoosiers to give the Tigers the 2-1 lead and the victory.

Cooper Casad earned the save to hold off Indiana in the bottom of the ninth.

"I am really proud of how our guys handled the long travel day yesterday and came out ready to go," said head coach Ryan Garko. "It's never easy to play on East Coast Time when you're traveling from California. It shows a lot of character and fight from these guys. Shelby gave us a great outing and we played solid fundamental baseball behind him."

Jekich led the Orange and Black's offense with one hit in three at-bats with one run scored. Keaton Glover had two hits in four at-bats.

The Tigers held the Hoosiers to five hits against their eight.

Ryan Shreve picked up his third win of the season for the Tigers, recording one strikeout through one inning. Casad earned the save to keep the victory in favor of Pacific. Cal Krueger was charged with the loss.

Pacific returns to the field tomorrow against #12 Indiana with first pitch set for 11:00 a.m. PST
