Box Score FRESNO, Calif. - The women's softball team wrapped up their final game at the Bulldog Classic this weekend with a loss to UC Davis, 3-0.
The Tigers finish with a record of 3-2 on the weekend and currently stand at 6-4 on the year. The Aggies advance to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the Bulldog Classic.
"We're learning and that's all that we could ask for being this early into the season," Head Coach Brian Kolze said. "We were able to finish the tournament on the plus side so that's always good and our players are getting the experience we need playing these good teams."
Davis scored three runs in the third inning and carried a 3-0 advantage to win the game. Marissa Young recorded her first loss of the season, finishing with two earned runs and one strikeout.
Despite their good fortunte at the plate as of late, the Orange and Black struggled against the Aggies registering only three hits and tallying nine strikeouts.
"I was happy with the way we played overall today," Kolze said. "We didn't give [Davis] too much offensively, they grounded in a couple singles and made some pop flys to advance their runners but in the end it came down to just the one inning in the third and that ended up being the difference maker."
Davis' pitcher, Brooke Yanez, pitched seven shutout innings for the Aggies. The freshman recorded her fifth win of the season.
The Tigers prepare for another weekend of tournament play, this time hosting their own Libby Matson Tournament starting on Thursday, Feb. 22. Pacific opens up their first homestand with a game against No. 7 LSU.
LSU is currently 10-0 on the season coming off a 1-0 win against Oregon State. First pitch for the two teams begins at 5:00 PM. Live stats for the game will be provided.
