Men's Tennis Wraps Up Day Two of Battle In The Bay

Tournament Draws and Results

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Battle in the Bay Classic wraps up for a pair of Tigers as Tadiwa Chinamo and Daniel Orlita fell in the first round of the consolation bracket Saturday afternoon.

Chinamo faced Blaz Seric of Hawai'i where he took the match to three sets after dropping the first set 6-3. The sophomore persevered and picked up the second set 7-5 forcing the third set where he lost the tie-break, 10-8.

Following Chinamo's match, Orlita went head-to-head with fellow West Coast Conference opponent, Joel Gamerov from San Diego. Orlita took an early lead as he won the first set 6-2 but the Torero came back and took the second set 6-2 forcing a third set tie-break. Gamerov would come out on top as he defeated Orlita 10-6 to move on to the second round.

Competing unattached from Pacific and competing in the men's open doubles are Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Oliveira. The two entered the match on Friday and took down the hosts from San Francisco, Oliver Poysti and Mert Zincirli with a score of 8-6 in a pro-set format. Next up for El Sallaly and Oliveira was a duo from Cal who battled to the end but El Sallaly and Oliveira came out victorious, 8-7(2).

On Saturday, El Sallaly and Oliveira played their semifinal match taking on the No. 2 seeded combo from TCU. El Sallaly and Oliveira punched their ticket to the final as they came out on top, 8-6.

The two go up against UC Santa Barbara's Anders Holm and Nicolas Moreno de Alboran Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The match will be streamed live here.
