Men's Tennis Finishes First Day Of UCSB Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team completed their first day of the UCSB Classic with Nathan Hampton grabbing the only win for the Tigers.

In doubles, Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Oliveira teamed up and faced Stanford in their first match, but fell to the Cardinal 8-6. The Tigers faced another loss as the team of Ross Watson and Simon Solbas fell to Fresno State's pair, 8-3. Daniel Orlita and Hampton rounded out the first day of doubles with a loss to Cal Poly, 8-3.

In singles, El Sallaly competed in Flight A and saw Paul Barretto of California in the first-round matchup but the Tiger fell to the Golden Bear, 6-2, 6-0. Watson and Orlita were placed in the Flight B singles where Watson dropped his match to fellow West Coast Conference opponent, Lucas Moreno of Loyola Marymount, 6-2, 7-6(3) while Orlita also dropped his match in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(5) to Cal Poly's Axel Damiens.

Over in Flight C singles, Oliveira picked up a loss, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 while Solbas dropped the Tigers' second match to a Golden Bear, 6-0, 7-5.

Hampton picked up Pacific's only win of the day against Matt Campana of St. Mary's in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

The Tigers will take to the court again tomorrow in Santa Barbara as they look to improve from Friday's matches.

Matches will begin again on Saturday morning with doubles.
