Nederstigt Advances To Quarters At Cal Nike Invite

Berkeley, Calif. - Anneroos Nederstigt posted a pair of wins Friday at the Cal Nike Invitational to advance to the Gold Division quarterfinals.

Nederstigt downed Nikita Pradeep of UC Davis in the round of 32, 4-6;6-2;6-3, and then turned in a victory over Cal's Alexis Nelson, 6-2;6-0. Nederstigt will face UC Santa Barbara's Jaimee Gilbertson, the flight's three-seed on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

The White division, Sabrina Rodriguez turned in a straight-set win over Emma Critser of Saint Mary's, 6-2;7-5. But Rodriguez withdrew from the quarterfinals due to injury, allowing the three-seed Kate Cusick of BYU to advance.

Jessica Kaye battled into the third set against UC Santa Barbara's Stephanie Yamada, but came up short, 6-2;2-6;6-3.

In the Blue division round of 32, Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz went three sets with Mayci Jones of BYU, but Jones prevailed, 3-6;6-3;6-2. Maayan Sela battled BYU's Savannah Ware to a first set tie-breaker, but Ware advanced 7-6 (4);6-3

In consolation singles, Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz fell to San Francisco's Anna Sokiran, 6-3;6-2, while Sela advanced with a bye.  Kaye was topped in the consolation quarters, by USF's Aisha Sharma, 6-2;6-0.

In doubles, Nederstigt & Sela fell to Melissa Baker and Stephanie Yamada of UCSB, 8-2, in the Blue division. Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz & Rodriguez dropped a 8-5 decision to California's Alexis Nelson & Stephanie Lin in the doubles Gold division.

Kaye & Nevada's Sara Korzeniecki played Amber Del Rosario and Sarina Chhabra of San Francisco in the doubles White division match, with USF's tandem winning, 8-5.

"We battled today," head coach Tina Samara said. "Even though we didn't get the results we wanted in doubles, there were so many things we did better than a week ago. In singles we had chances in most of the matches we lost, but again need to get better at executing during the important points. I am so happy for Annaroos. She comes to practice everyday with a good attitude and just works. She beat a blue chip player who finished her junior career top 15 in the U.S. That says a lot about what 'Roos is capable of."
