LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Only one match remains in the 2026 campaign for the Pacific women's tennis program, an opportunity to extend the Tigers' winning streak over LMU to a program best two straight matches when the Tigers and Lions face off on Friday at 1 p.m.
The meeting between the two schools is the first since Pacific (6-13, 2-4 WCC) pulled off the comeback upset over the Lions (9-9, 4-3 WCC) on the Tigers' senior day last season. All three student-athletes that collected points in the singles portion of the match return for Pacific this season in juniors
Indiya McLeod,
Milena Maiorova, and
Rayna Sugai.
Sugai battled back from a first set deficit to seal the match last season, and now in 2026 has found her stride at the right time, winning her last two appearances and sports a 3-3 conference record playing between courts two, three and four.
By contrast, Maiorova took the opposite path of winning the first set and then holding on for the third set win. During the WCC slate this season the junior is 2-2 with wins over Saint Mary's and Seattle on court one.
The catalyst to last year's triumph, McLeod took LMU in straight sets and this season has established herself as the primary point scorer on the Pacific roster. McLeod boasts an 11-4 record between courts one and two and has yet to be defeated on court one. The junior is 2-1 against WCC competition and is coming off a straight set win over Santa Clara. Another win on Friday would tie her for her career best 12 singles wins, set in 2024.
Maiorova and Sugai had also teamed up in doubles to help put Pacific out front early in that match but have not teamed up together this season since January. However, Maiorova has been effective with McLeod as the pair have a 5-3 record this season. Graduate
Cindy Ung and junior
Leyanne Hirota have been similarly effective with a 5-2 record.
Hirota in particular has been strong in the doubles portion for Pacific as she leads the team with ten wins and, away from doubles court three, is 6-2.
