STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior Day for Pacific women's tennis started out strong, but the Tigers couldn't close out Santa Clara and conceded a 4-3 defeat Monday afternoon at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
The match began with Pacific (6-13, 2-4 WCC) grinding out two close doubles matches for the early lead. Juniors
Indiya McLeod and
Milena Maiorova on court two and graduate
Cindy Ung and junior
Leyanne Hirota on court one each pulled off 7-5 wins. The latter pairing has emerged as Pacific's go-to duo in the doubles as they have a 5-2 record together and went undefeated at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis center this season. The win was also their first on court one together. Individually Hirota became the first Tiger since the 2024 season to reach ten doubles wins, she leads the team with a 10-7 record.
Not to be outdone, the former duo also won their fifth match together this season and got their second win of the conference slate as a pair. They improved to 5-3 on the season.
Singles followed a similar script to the doubles and Pacific jumped out to four first set leads. McLeod and junior
Rayna Sugai would each close out their opponent in straight sets on courts two and four to round out the Tigers point scorers on the afternoon. On court two, McLeod won her 11th match of the season and improved to 11-4, drawing her one closer to her career high and two away from Pacific's single season high since
Klara Kosan's 13 wins in 2024. Sugai meanwhile won her second consecutive singles appearance and moved to 5-11 during the campaign.
However, courts three and five were won by Santa Clara (6-13, 2-4 WCC) in straight sets, setting up two winner take-all sets on courts one and six. Despite Pacific taking the first set of each court, the Tigers were unable to clinch either court and the Broncos took the match.
After the match,
Cindy Ung was recognized for two seasons of hard work with the program.
The team still has an opportunity to finish the regular season on a high note with a trip to Los Angeles to face LMU on Friday. Last season, Pacific defeated LMU in Stockton 4-3.
