Box Score 2 Full West Coast Conference Release
San Bruno, Calif. - Seniors Sara Anderson and Melanie Habib were each named to the 2016 West Coast Conference Softball All-Academic Team for the third consecutive season, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon. In addition, sophomore Molly Bourne was named to the squad in her first season of eligibility.
To be considered for West Coast Conference All-Academic honors, candidates must own a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term at the time of the nomination, hold sophomore standing and be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
A constant force at the top of the order for the Tigers in her senior season, Anderson has started all 45 games at the leadoff position for Pacific in 2016. The Woodinville, Wash. product is hitting .348 with 48 hits in 138 at bats. She is tied for the team lead in steals with eight and has the leading on-base percentage on the team (.441). Anderson will leave Pacific in the top 25 all-time in program history in walks, stolen bases and runs scored, in the top 10 in batting average and on base percentage and as second all time in stolen base percentage. She was named to her second straight all-WCC team after the 2015 season.
In the classroom, Anderson has been a standout with a cumulative 3.91 GPA as a Social Sciences major with a minor in Pre-Law. In addition to the Academic All-Region selection, Anderson has been named to the WCC All-Academic team in each of her seasons of eligibility. Additionally, Anderson is an National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar Athlete and has been named the winner of Pacific's Catherine Harnack Academic Achievement Award in each of the last two seasons. Most Recently, Anderson was honored with Pacific's prestigious Amos Alonzo Stagg Scholar Athlete Award.
Habib, from Davis, Calif, has registered a 3.37 GPA as a Health and Exercise science major. She is hitting .306 thus far in West Coast Conference play including starting all 12 games at shortstop. Overall, Habib is hitting .236 with a pair of homers and 11 RBI. Habib has started 177 games at shortstop for the Tigers and will add the academic honor to All-WCC first team honors in 2014.
Bourne, a sophomore economics mathematics major, has posted a cumulative 3.33 GPA. A Preseason All-WCC selection, Bourne has started all 45 games in 2016 while splitting time between left field and third base. Bourne also saw limited time at shortstop. The Whittier, Calif. product has posted 20 hits and scored 16 runs in 2016.
Anderson, Habib, Bourne and the Tigers wrap up the 2016 campaign on Thursday, beginning with a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. before a 12:00 p.m. contest on Friday that will serve as LMU's Senior Day.
