Box Score 2 Davis, Calif. - In a second straight pitchers duel between the two squads, Dartmouth came up victorious over the Pacific softball team, taking a 3-1 victory in an 11:00 am contest at La Rue Field in Davis. Cassidy Gustafson paced the effort for the Orange and Black, going 3-3 with a home run and a double, giving Pacific its lone run of the contest. Sara Anderson was also a standout in the game, swiping two bases and reaching base three times.
For the Tigers, Kenya Lindstrom (4-4) got the start and worked around base runners in the first two frames before the Big Green pushed across a pair in the third inning. Dartmouth got runners on via a bunt single by Katie McEachern, who promptly stole second. Lourlin lara and Morgan Martinelli both walked and came in to score via a fielder's choice RBI groundout off the bat of Karen Chaw and an illegal pitch by Lindstrom, respectively, as the designated visiting team took a 2-0 lead.
Pacific cut the Dartmouth advantage to just 2-1 as Cassidy Gustafson crushed a homer in the bottom of the fifth frame to lead off the inning. With two out, Anderson singled to shortstop against Breanna Ethridge (3-3), but the Tigers could not muster the tying run. Against Lindstrom in the top of the sixth, Dartmouth got its breathing room back as Chaw doubled to center and pinch runner Brianna Lohmann scored on a Miranda Greig single. Following the Dartmouth tally, pitcher Megan Walters held Dartmouth scoreless in her 1.2 innings of relief, throwing 38 pitches in total.
For the second straight day, Morgan McCalmon notched a save for the Big Green, hurling the final two innings of the contest. Pacific attempted rallies in the sixth and seventh, with Molly Bourne and Rachel Sellers delivering singles in the sixth before Bourne was called out at home attempting to advance on a passed ball ending the frame.
In the seventh, Gustafson gave Pacific a jolt with a double to right center, but McCalmon responded to induce a pop up from Melanie Habib and also racked up a strikeout of Caitlin Reynolds, making her first collegiate start, for the first two outs. Anderson walked ahead of Haylee Moran-Rowen, but McCalmon sealed the Dartmotuh win with a strikeout.
Lindstrom finished with one strikeout against two walks in her 5.1 innings of work, surrendering three earned runs on five hits scattered over an 88 pitch outing. Gustafson's three-hit day headlined the Tiger effort.
Pacific was slated to return to action at 3:30 pm against UC Davis as the Aggie Swing Spring Invitational continues.
