Los Angeles - The No. 4 Pacific men's water polo team fell to No. 3 Southern California on the road Saturday, 15-7. Luis Araya led Pacific with three goals on the afternoon.
Derek Clappis, Engin Ege Colak, Andrea De Nardi and Lucas Hastie also scored for the Tigers, who fall to 11-3 overall with all three losses to the top three of the polls.
Lachlan Edwards led USC with three goals, while Matteo Morelli, Matt Maier and Mihajlo Milicevic each tallied two goals, with Thomas Dunstan, Marin Dasic, Bryce Hoerman, James Walters, Blake Edwards and Grant Stein all adding goals.
McQuin Baron, the starting goalie for the United States Olympic team, tallied 14 saves in goal for USC, while Pacific's Alen Osmanovic posted 11.
USC jumped out to an early lead and eliminated all the drama, as the Trojans scored two goals in the first two minutes, stretched the lead to 5-0 after the first quarter and led 7-0 before conceding.
De Nardi put Pacific on the board with a power-play goal early in the second, and Araya closed the gap to 7-2. But Stein tallied as USC carried an 8-2 lead into halftime.
In the third, the Trojans stretched the martin to 12-2 before Araya tallied back to back. Colak's goal midway through the fourth made the score 14-5, and after Dunstan tallied, Clappis and Hastie settled on the final margin with goals.
USC improves to 12-1 overall on the season.
Pacific will look to bounce back on Sunday against No. 9 Pepperdine in the Golden Coast Conference opener at noon in Malibu.
