Anderson, Habib Named To WCC Softball All-Academic Team

San Bruno, Calif. - Juniors Sara Anderson and Melanie Habib were each named to the 2015 West Coast Conference Softball All-Academic Team, earning the honor for the second straight season, the conference office announced on Friday afternoon.

To be considered for West Coast Conference All-Academic honors, candidates must own a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term at the time of the nomination, hold sophomore standing and be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.

Anderson, from Woodinville, Wash. has a cumulative a 3.90 GPA as a Social Sciences major, the third highest mark of all honorees. The 2014 Catherine Harnack Academic Achievment Award winner continued her impressive work in the classroom in the 2014 fall semester to garner the plaudit. On the field, Anderson has made a case for a second straight All-WCC honor. Anderson is a perfect 9-9 in stolen base attempts this season, leads the Tigers with a .378 on-base percentage and is second in runs scored with 27. Anderson's four runs scored in a victory at Cal State Bakersfield on Feb. 21 matches a program high set by Paige Anderson in March of 2009.

Habib, a product of Davis, Calif. and a junior sport medicine major, owns a 3.27 cumulative grade point average throughout her first five semesters as a member of the Tigers. Habib has started all 52 contests for the Tigers at shortstop and Her 14 sacrifice hits is tops for the Tigers this season and her 0.27 sacrifice hits per game is good for 27th in the nation this season.

Anderson, Habib and the Tigers wrap up the 2015 campaign series on Friday, beginning with a doubleheader at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm before a 10:00 am contest for Senior Day on Saturday.
