LMU Salvages Game From Tigers In Series Finale

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - In the finale of a three-game conference series at Bill Simoni Field, the Pacific Softball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Loyola Marymount, as early runs for the Lions were too much for the Tigers to overcome. Pacific now sits at 13-33 on the season with a conference mark of 2-7 while Loyola Marymount improves to 22-26 on the season with a WCC mark of 4-5. The Tigers struggled offensively in the early goings as LMU's Rachael Farrington (17-13) was perfect through four frames. Farrington allowed her first hit and baserunner in the top of the fifth inning as sophomore Cassidy Gustafson reached on a bunt single.

Pacific starter Dani Bonnet (5-17) got into early trouble, allowing a home run to the second batter of the contest, Megan Von Behren. Von Behren connected on her fourth of the season to give the Lions the early 1-0 advantage. Bonnet recovered to get out of a bases loaded situation surrendering just the one run, but got into a jam again in the second inning as the Lions rallied for three runs, capped by an RBI single from Stephanie Crist. The strike chased Bonnet from the contest, as the Tigers went to the bullpen for freshman Megan Walters.

Walters was a major highlight on the day for the Orange and Black, as she finished the game tossing 5.1 innings of one-hit relief, striking out two batters while walking just one.

The fifth inning saw Pacific push a run across thanks to hits from Gustafson, freshman Sydney Lahners and senior Alex Steinmehl. Junior Melanie Habib picked up an RBI on a fielder' s choice to cut the LMU advantage to 4-1. After Walters needed just four pitches to retire the side in the sixth, Pacific went back to work as Sara Anderson walked to lead off the inning and three straight singles from junior Nicole Zapotoczny, Gustafson and freshman Rachel Sellers plated a run as the Tigers went station-to-station.

Walters again had a perfect inning in the top of the seventh, but Farrington matched the effort in the bottom of the frame, retiring the Pacific side in order to seal victory for LMU in the final game of the three-game set.

Gustafson tallied a mult-hit game, her fourth of the season to highlight the Pacific offensive effort.

The Tigers will conclude the five game homestand with a Tuesday night contest against former Big West foe UC Davis. First pitch is slated for 6:00 pm.
