Pacific Drops Matinee To UC Davis

Box Score

Davis, Calif. - The Pacific Softball team dropped a 10-1 decision in five innings to UC Davis on Tuesday at La Rue Field. UC Davis used a pair of rallies in the first two innings to sink the Tigers, who fall to 2-4 on the season with the defeat. UC Davis improves to 2-4 on the season after the win in their home opener.

The Tigers sent redshirt sophomore Carly Mortensen (0-1) to the circle for the midweek contest, and the Aggie hitters came out swinging in the first frame. After a Krista Bava walk, Christa Castello doubled to left center, plating the first run of the game for UC Davis. Alexis Carney was hit by a pitch and Christina Guidry then singled home another run to extend the lead to 2-0. After a double steal that scored Carney to make it 3-0, Kelly Zboraslke singled up the middle to extend the UC Davis lead to 4-0. Pacific then went to the bullpen, summoning Freshman Marissa Young. Young got two quick outs to end the frame.

In the top of the second, junior Nicole Zapotoczny led off with a double to left center against Leah Munden. With two out, junior Alex Steinmehl singled back to the pitcher Munden, who overthrew the bag, allowing Zapotoczny to score the first run of the contest for the Tigers. Sophomore Jessica Pasco followed with an infield single, but the Tigers registered just the one run in the frame.

In the bottom of the second, UC Davis tacked on five runs against Young, thanks in part to a Zboralske single and an Ashley Lotoszynski two-RBI double. The Aggies added a run against Young in the third inning before Pacific freshman pitcher Megan Walters delivered a scoreless frame in the bottom of the fourth, capped with a pair of strikeouts.

For Pacific, six starters recorded hits, with Zapotoczny's double the only extra-base effort on the afternoon.

Pacific will be back in action at the 2015 Stanford Nike Invitational on Friday at 10:00 am against Cal Poly and 12:00 pm against No. 3/4 Alabama.
