Tigers Settle For Weekend Split As Pilots Take Sunday Matinee

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - In the finale of a two-game weekend homestand, the Pacific women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Portland Pilots at Knoles Field on Sunday, with the deciding strike coming in the 21st minute, after a penalty kick goal by Portland's Allison Wetherington found the back of the net. The Tigers fall to 2-9-1 (1-3 WCC) on the season while Portland now sits a 6-8-0 (2-2 WCC).

The Tigers came out firing against Portland goalkeeper Rachel Lusby, as the first three shot attempts of the contest came off the boot of Orange and Black players. Samia Adam saw a second minute strike corralled by Lusby before Mati Long had a strong chance denied by Portland in the third minute. Alex Hussar sailed a shot wide in the third minute and Hannah Terry missed wide in the 14th minute.

Portland scored on its third shot of the contest after a tussle in the box resulted in a foul on the Tigers in the 21st minute. Wetherington pushed it past Lena Perry for her second strike of the season. The next shot of the contest belonged to the Pilots in the 40th minute as fresh substitute Hannah Griffiths Boston took a strong cross from Ellie Boon, who found Griffiths Boston near the far post. Griffiths Boston was able to one-time the cross past Perry to double the advantage for the visitors at 2-0.

Despite trailing by two at the intermission, Pacific held a 6-5 shot advantage. Pacific made a goalkeeper change prior to the final 45 minutes of regulation as Regan Heslop spelled Perry for the remainder of the contest, giving the freshmen her first conference action.

Griffiths Boston scored off a deflection in the box in the 61st minute after an initial shot attempt by Parkes Kendrick rattled around the box and landed on the foot of Cecilia Pedersen, who passed to Griffiths Boston. The Portland forward found the back of the net for her second of the contest and the season to put the Pilots ahead 3-0. In the 69th minute, Courtney Callister had a great scoring opportunity, breaking free of the Portland backline on a solo run. Lusby was able to save her shot attempt, denying Pacific its opening salvo. Portland added a fourth score in the 76th minute, as Pedersen picked up her fourth of the season.

A header by Alex Hussar sailed high in the 89th minute in Pacific's last attempt to get on the scoreline. Hussar led Pacific with three shots while Mati Long and Terry each finished with two shots.
