Berkeley, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision at California on Monday, Jan. 18 at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Tigers are 0-2 overall, while the Bears improved to 2-0.
The Tigers dropped the doubles point, though Miguel Diaz and Jose Chamba picked up a win at No. 3 doubles. The Bears won three singles matches to take the 4-0 sweep.
"This was such a close match," said Head Coach Ryan Redondo. "The 4-0 doesn't signify the match. We won at 3 doubles and had multiple break chances at 1 and let a break go. In singles, Miguel was on top of his game and was up a set and a break against the 93 ranked player. Ashwin was up a set and serving 5-4. Marlon had just lost a tight breaker and had the momentum and Jose lost after being up 4-1. Even Sem dictated his match but is still getting back to his level of fitness and match toughness from being out for nearly 2 months. This was a step forward toward the objectives and goals set. We have high expectations and this was a positive step to work with."
