Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific baseball team steps out of Big West play for a mid-week matchup with a future conference opponent when the Tigers travel to Santa Clara Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game.
The Tigers are completing their final season in the Big West before re-joining the West Coast Conference in 2013-14. Pacific will be facing their last of five WCC opponents this baseball season.
Pacific (11-31) are looking to post back-to-back wins for the first time this season. The Tigers rallied for a 6-5 win over Hawai'i on Saturday with a four-run bottom of the ninth inning.
The Tigers strung together four consecutive two-out hits, as Connor Bitzer singled home Jason Taasaas, Robby Mansfield singled, Dustin Torchio clubbed an RBI double into the right field corner and Erik Lockwood completed the comeback with a two-run single for the Tigers' third walk-off win of the year.
Lockwood also posted a walk-off single back on March 3 against No. 2 Arkansas as the Tigers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth in a neutral site game in Arizona.
Pacific will give the ball to LHP Kyle Crawford for the start. The junior has a 5.59 ERA in 38.2 innings this season. He has struck out 14 against 11 walks. On the year, Crawford has a record of 1-2 In his last outing, Crawford went three innings against Cal last Tuesday, with the Bears tallying five runs on seven hits.
Santa Clara (10-35) will send RHP Tommy Nance to the mound. Nance will be making his seventh start, and has a 2-3 record with a 4.88 ERA. In 38.1 innings, Nance has struck out 28 against 13 walks. His last outing was a perfect frame of relief on Sunday against Gonzaga.
Following Tuesday's contest, the Tigers return to Klein Family Field for a three-game home series against UC Davis opening Friday.
