Tokyo, Japan - Completing second round play at the 2012 Topy Cup, the Pacific golf team was led by sophomore Eric Sugimoto who shot his first sub-70 round of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 12. As a team, the Tigers finished the round in a tie for ninth overall as Pacific sits at +19 for the tournament with a combined two-day score of 579. Leading the tournament is Tohoku Fukushi University which posted a -20, 540 through the first two rounds of action to take a 10-stroke lead into the final round of play at Tanagura Country Club.
After finishing his first round of play at 72, the sophomore from San Diego, Calif. turned in an impressive 69 on the second day of play at the Topy Cup. Sugimoto's 69 tied for the best single round score of the tournament for the Tigers as he matched senior Alex Edfort's first round tally. For the tournament, Sugimoto posted a +1, 141 through 36 holes to move into a tie for 18th overall. One of those tied at +1 for the tournament was Edfort as the senior flipped scores with Sugimoto to post a 72 in round two after a first round 69. Leading the way overall was Hideaki Kajiwara of Senshu University as he carded a second round 64 to go 8-under for the tournament.
Pacific will look to make a move up the leaderboard on the final day of play on Thursday, Sept. 13 as the teams play the final 18 holes of the Topy Cup.
