Seniors Complete Sweep Of Northridge, 6-1, in Season Finale

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - Pacific's seniors delivered a series sweep of Cal State Northridge, 6-1, behind senior SS Garrett Borba's three-hit, three-RBI day. Five senior pitchers combined to limit the Matadors to one run on seven hits.

Senior CF Josh Simms added two hits and two RBI to finish his career on an 11-game hit streak. Borba doubled twice, giving Pacific the lead for good in the fifth inning.

Senior pitchers RHP Thomas Berolzheimer, RHP Chris Larsen, LHP Joe Spizzirri, RHP Jared Wagner and RHP John Prato Matthews held the Matadors in check, as the Northridge tallied a run in the first off Berolzheimer.
After Larsen allowed one hit in two innings, Spizzirri (1-3) picked up the win as Pacific tallied a pair of runs in the fifth. Wagner threw a perfect seventh and eighth, and Prato Matthews added a scoreless ninth to wrap the victory.

Northridge LF Tom Barry hit a solo home run to lead off the ballgame, but after Berolzheimer and Larsen put up zeros through the fourth, Pacific tied the game in their half.

Simms doubled to left center, and after a groundout, sophomore C Riley Drongesen lined a single over second base to tie the game.

In the fifth, sophomore 3B Curtis Gomez walked and freshman DH Taylor Murphy singled to center. Borba followed with a double into the left centerfield gap to give Pacific the lead for good and chase Northridge starter Harley Holt (0-3).

Pacific added two in the seventh, as Murphy singled and Borba doubled to left. Senior LF Brett Christopher was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Simms ripped a single up the middle for two runs and a 5-1 Tigers lead.

In eighth, junior 2B Tyger Pederson singled, stole second base, and after Murphy walked, Borba added an RBI single to right to decide the final margin.

Borba's three RBI tied a career-high, while his three hits and two doubles were each career bests in his final game with the Tigers.

Senior RF Allen Riley wrapped his Pacific career with nine career home runs, while senior OF Daniel Johnston was inactive due to injury and finishes his two-year Pacific career with five homers. Berolzheimer was making his fourth career start and moved into third on Pacific's all-time pitching appearances list with his 80th game.

The Tigers wrap the season with a three-game win streak to improve to 16-40 overall, 6-18 in the Big West. Cal State Northridge finishes the season 23-30 overall and 10-14 in the BWC.
