Baseball Hosts Brown In Saturday Doubleheader

Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team opens a four-game series with the Brown Bears at Klein Family Field beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. The series will continue Sunday at 1 p.m. and conclude on Monday at 6 p.m.

Pacific is returning home to Klein Family Field after a three-game road swing at Gonzaga and a midweek road game at Sacramento State on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers turned in a 2.52 ERA in the series against Gonzaga, issuing just four walks in 25 innings. But Pacific had to go to the bullpen in the second inning at Sacramento State, falling 6-3 on Tuesday.

Offensively, sophomore 2B/C Riley Drongesen has reached base in all 15 games he's started this season and leads the team in hitting at .364. Since being inserted into the starting lineup after five games, Drongesen has hit .370 with six doubles and eight runs batted in. He's picked up multiple hits in seven of the 15 starts, including a three-hit afternoon at Sacramento State.

The Tigers (4-16) are hitting .278 as a team, with 40 doubles, a pair of triples and six home runs.  Brown (1-7) has a .291 average with 14 doubles, two triples and seven home runs.

In game one on Saturday, Pacific RHP Michael Benson will take the hill. The freshman is 1-3 on the season with a 4.87 ERA in 20.1 innings pitched. He went 5.1 innings at Gonzaga last Friday, allowing three earned on seven this while striking out five. Brown will counter with freshman LHP Will Marcal, who is 0-2 with a 4.00 ERA in nine innings. He's struck out 14 against seven walks. In his last outing, he took the loss against Northeastern on March 14, allowing three earned in four innings.

For game two, the Tigers turn to Kyle Crawford. The sophomore LHP is coming off his longest career start last Saturday at Gonzaga. He tossed a complete game, allowing two earned runs in eight innings while striking out a pair. For the season, he is 1-2 with a 5.46 ERA in 28 innings of work. Brown will send freshman RHP Taylor Wright (0-0) to the bump. In 9.2 innings, Wright has a 0.93 ERA with seven strikeouts. His last appearance was a 1.2 inning relief stint against Tulane on March 16.

Sunday, freshman RHP Michael Hager gets the ball for Pacific. Hager is 1-1 with a 5.48 ERA, but earned the win his last time out with an eight-inning, four-hit performance against Gonzaga. On the year he's struck out eight against three walks in 23 innings of action.
