Stockton, Calif. - Led by their junior standout Nikki Armagost, the Pacific softball team took down San Diego State, 3-1, on Friday, March 23.  The win capped day two of the Tigers' Libby Matson Tournament as Pacific moved to 16-10 overall and 2-0 at the tournament while the Aztecs fell to 17-17 on the year and 1-1 in Stockton.

Taking apart the Aztecs both at the plate and in the circle, Armagost put her stamp on another signature performance as the junior finished the night 3-for-3 while going all seven innings for the Tigers.  Finding herself just a triple shy of the cycle, Armagost provided all the offense she would need in her first at bat of the evening when the junior blasted the second pitch she saw over the right field fence to plate all three runs for Pacific.  

Armagost's fourth home run of the season came after junior Megan Hom and sophomore Kelsey Rodriguez began the game with back-to-back singles to set the table for Armagost.  For Hom, the single and the run scored were extremely special as the junior centerfielder trotted home for the 100th time in her stellar career.  With the run, Hom became just one of 12 Tigers all-time to reach the century mark as she now sits primed to enter the Tigers' all-time top-10.

On top of crushing the ball at the plate, Armagost showed off her stuff in the circle as well as she pitched her fourth complete game of the year to move to 6-2 overall.  The junior got into trouble just once when the Aztecs mounted a rally in the fourth that broke up the shutout for Armagost.  However, as she did throughout the night, Armagost got out of a the jam by relying on her defense, a defense that came up huge throughout the game.  

In the fourth it was a fly ball to sophomore Taylor Petty in right that got Armagost out of the inning.  However, over the final three innings, and for the most part, the entire game, it was her infield mates that did her dirty work.  Throughout the contest, junior Megan Allen at third, senior Nicole Matson at short and senior Alexa Rivera at second provided the backup needed for their pitcher to come up with her sixth victory.

Overall, Armagost scattered six hits in her seven innings of work while walking two and striking out one.  Offensivley, the Tigers came up with 10 hits on the night with seven coming from the top third of the order in Hom, Rodriguez and Armagost.  In addition to the top, Rivera put together another solid effort at the plate as the senior finished 2-for-3 including picking up her fifth double of the year.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, March 24 when they take on Princeton in the final game of day three of the Libby Matson Tournament.  The time for the game is scheduled for 2:30 pm, however, with rain in the forecasts, all times on Saturday are still to be finalized.
