No. 12 Tigers Fall To No. 14 Hawaii 3-0 On Saturday

Stockton, Calif. – Pacific men's volleyball returned to the court against Hawaii for its second match in as many nights at the Alex G. Spanos Center on February 4. The Tigers fell to the Warriors 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-19). The loss dropped Pacific to 3-7 (1-4 MPSF) and improved Hawaii to 6-5 (3-3 MPSF).  Leading the Tigers offense was sophomore Adam Troy with 10 kills, while hitting .214. 

The Tigers fell behind early in the opening set, and was not able to overcome the deficit, falling 25-21. Offensively, the Orange and Black was led by junior setter Patrick Tunnell with 10 assists, and junior outside hitter Taylor Hughes with four kills. Seniors Sean Daley and Florian Gornik totaled four kills on eight attacks in the frame.

The second set opened with Hawaii taking an early 10-7 lead, but the Tigers would battle back to tie the score at 11. However, a 5-0 Warriors run gave them control of the game. Troy hit .316 in the frame and collected eight kills. Sophomore libero Javier Caceres added four of his seven digs for the Tigers in the second game.

The third set began with Hawaii on a 9-2 run that the Tigers could not erase. However, Pacific would not quit, hanging tough the entire game. At one point, the Tigers closed the gap to 19-17 after a block by Daley and sophomore Cory Leckie, but the Warriors would eventually regain momentum and grab the set 25-19. 

Leading the Warriors on the evening was Steven Hunt with 14 kills, while hitting .200. Hawaii had four players with four or more blocks in the match, led by Jarrod Lofy's five.

Tunnell and Leckie finished the match with 22 and 8 assists, respectively.  Junior Mathew Houlihan fired a season-high six kills from off the bench. Senior Dylan Walker would add another three strikes for the Tigers. Daley led Pacific with four blocks, while Troy, Walker and freshman Tommy Carmody added three blocks each. 

The Tigers return to the hardwood next weekend on February 10 and 11 with back-to-back matches on the road against Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
