Stockton, Calif. - Pacific's Tommy Carmody was named Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Blocker of the Year Tuesday by a nationwide voting committee.
Carmody, a 6-9 junior middle blocker from Orland Park, Illinois, led the nation in blocks per set, with 1.60 and earned All-MPSF Honorable Mention honors.
His 30 solo blocks ranks third in the NCAA, while his 144 total blocks ranks second. Both marks led the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this season.
Carmody also has chipped in 1.92 kills per set, while hitting .326 on the season. He led the Tigers with 270.0 points (3.00 per set).
As a team, Pacific led NCAA men's volleyball in blocking, with 3.05 per set. Carmody also set Pacific's single-match record during the rally scoring era with 15 blocks in a five-game loss to Cal State Northridge in January, tying an MPSF mark.
The voting committee for this award was comprised of more than 20 college men's volleyball head coaches and volleyball reporters from around the nation. Carmody tallied 48 points, six ahead of runner up Matt Leske of Ball State.
