Stanford, Calif. - Holding a 5-1 lead in the seventh, the Tigers saw their win vanish in an instant as Nevada plated six runs including a walk-off three-run home run with two outs and two strikes to hand Pacific a 7-5 loss on Sunday, February 19.  The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-5 on the young season and 2-3 at the tournament while the Wolfpack improved to 3-7 on the year and 2-3 in the tournament.

For the second time in as many games, the Tigers suffered a late game rally by their opposition as the Wolfpack were able to erase a four run lead by Pacific in the final inning of play.  Down to the final out of the competition and with runners at first and second, the Wolfpack strung together four straight devastating at bats to do six runs of damage, culminating on a three-run home run to left field by Sara Parsons on a 3-2 pitch to end the game, a strike that accounted for her only hit of the game.

Prior to the fateful inning, the Tigers appeared in control of the contest as sophomore Tori Shepard worked her way through Nevada's lineup with little trouble, relinquishing just one run in the first six innings on a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning.  Through the first six innings of action, Shepard scattered seven Wolfpack hits and struck out five while also seeing Pacific's defense hold strong when needed most.  The Tigers put together a few spectacular defensive plays behind their sophomore pitcher including nailing what would have been the first run of the game for the Wolfpack at the plate in the third when junior centerfielder Megan Hom gunned down her second runner at the plate in as many games.

At the plate, the Tigers had their opportunities to put the Wolfpack away and break open the game late, but Pacific's recent struggles with runners aboard continued as six runners, including five in scoring position, were left stranded over the final three innings of action.  Despite their struggles, the Tigers were able to plate five runs throughout the day, combining both hits and Wolfpack mistakes to do their damage.  Of the five runs scored by the Tigers, two came via hit as junior Amy Moore drove in the first run of the game with a RBI double in the second while sophomore Taylor Petty added a RBI single in the sixth.  Petty accounted for knocking in two of the Tigers runs in the game as she skipped a ball over the third baseman's glove in the second that allowed Moore to score the second run of the game for Pacific.

Overall, the Tigers posted nine hits in the contest with sophomore Kelsey Rodriguez and senior Alexa Rivera leading the way with two hits a piece.  Facing the Tigers in the circle, Mallary Darby (3-2) picked up the win thanks to her team's late game rally as she went seven complete innings while striking out four and walking two, one via a hit batter.  For Shepard (1-2), the loss came after a stellar previous two days at the Nike Invitational where she had given up just two runs in 12.0 innings of work to earn a win and a save for the Tigers.  

Pacific will need to recover quickly from its loss as the Tigers leave for the Cathedral City Classic where they begin play with No. 15 Oklahoma State on Thursday, February 23 at 10:30 am.  The Tigers will take on BYU later in the day as the tournament kicks off its four day stint.
