Davis,Calif.-In the second day of match play at the UC Davis Invitational, the Tigers gained momentum and boosted their victories.  In the Flight A ITA singles consolation bracket, sophomore Ben Mirkin defeated Kyle Miller of UC Davis in straight sets to post a final score of 6-4, 6-4.  In the round robin singles, both sophomore Denis Stolyarov and sophomore Erik Cederwall earned wins for the Tigers getting the second day of the tournament off to a promising start.

Tiger duo, Stolyarov and Cederwall, posted a win in their doubles match up against the Saint Mary's College natives Bloore and Hunt with a cool 8-4 final score which placed them in the semifinal round of the consolation bracket.  Sophomore Alex Hamilton and partner sophomore Valentim Goncalves Jr. also won by default against USF pair Bahri and Bucalem after forfeiting due to injury.

At the conclusion of the day's events, Director of Tennis and Head Men's Tennis Coach Ryan Redondo reflected, "We had a ton of matches today.  We had several matches where we are up to clinch and end up losing.  We are in the position to win almost every match we play, and just need to fine tune the part of the game that will get us to consistently play to win.  We had a great showing from Denis Stolyarov beating a player from CAL and Valentim Goncalves Jr. had a tough match where he had several set points against his Stanford opponent.  More tennis tomorrow starting at 10:00am."

The Tigers will compete in the last day of the UC Davis Invitational tomorrow morning (October 7, 2012).
