In Game 27 of the NorCal Tournament, Pacific's men's water polo team fell to Pepperdine, 14-11. The Tigers were led by Joey Doyle, who tallied three goals.
Pacific did not hesitate out of the gate, as they won the sprint and gained the first possession of the game. After an offensive foul on Pacific's Goran Tomasevic, Pepperdine's Danny White capitalized on the foul and scored on a skip shot to put the Waves up 1-0 with 7:14 on the clock. The Tigers notched their first goal of the contest with a goal from Daniel Lungu on the counter attack 21 seconds later to tie the game at one all. Jasper Visser then gave Pacific the one point advantage with a cross cage goal with 5:48 remaining in the frame. Pepperdine proceeded to take a 5-2 on uninterrupted goals. With 1:30 left in the first quarter, Tomasevic converted a shot during a Pacific power play, bringing the Tigers within two of Pepperdine. Balazs Erdelyi drilled a long snipe into the net with 33 seconds on the clock to make it 5-4 game. Joey Doyle netted the breakaway game-tying shot with 11 seconds left to knot the game at 5-5 going into the second quarter.
Milcovich opened the second quarter with a skip shot into the net and was followed by two more Waves goals to give Pepperdine an 8-5 lead. With 1:24 left in the half, a failed block attempt by Pepperdine on a shot from Daniel Lungu rebounded Pacific's way as Tyler Reardon came up with the ball and found the back of the net, cutting Pepperdine's lead to two. Pacific capitalized on a goalkeeper exclusion in the final minute of the first half, coming to within one of Pepperdine on a goal by Tom Koning which was then followed by another game tying shot by Doyle.
Lungu opened the third frame scoring on a skip shot into the net to put Pacific up by one, but Pepperdine's Nate Castillo responded with consecutive goals to put Pepperdine up 10-9. With 1:03 left in the third quarter, Doyle netted his third game-tying goal of the contest for 10-10 score with a quarter left to play.
Pacific won the sprint and gained the first possession of the fourth quarter. The Waves took the 12-10 advantage with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Lance Morrison speared a shot past the keeper to Pacific back within one goal of the Waves, but the Tigers could not find the back of the net before the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. The Waves scored two additional goals to end the contest, and claim the No. 5 spot in the tournament.
Joey Frantz started in the cage for Pacific, playing the first four minutes of the quarter. Alex Malkis registered eight saves in the cage for the Tigers in three and a half quarters of action.
With 14-11 loss, Pacific finished sixth in the tournament and dropped to 4-2 on the season.
