Pacific Women's Soccer Explode For 3-0 Win Over Nevada

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. – After a scoreless first half, the Pacific women's soccer team exploded for three goals in a span of 9:56 in the second half for a season-opening 3-0 win over Nevada.

Sophomore Renae McFadden, senior Kristina Wavomba and senior Laura Hogan tallied for the Tigers, while sophomore Brittani Beeman picked up a pair of assists off well-placed set pieces.

"The core group took control in the second half," head coach Keith Coleman said. "We had to calm things down in the second half and organize a little differently, and things happened naturally in the second half.  One of our goals… was to make sure we were strong on set pieces and… I think we started off on a great note."

In the 49th minute, Brittni Beeman sent a restart into the box, which Wavomba tapped on to McFadden, who settled it and finished into the lower right corner from eight yards out.

Another restart in the 58th minute saw Beeman place it into the box for Wavomba, who's shot carried over the line despite Nevada keeper Jenna Riddle's attempt to corral it.

Just 1:18 later, Hogan headed home the service from Hernandez on a corner kick to put the Tigers up three.

For Pacific, it was a tale of two halves as the Tigers out-shot Nevada 8-3 in the final 45 minutes, including seven of the half's first eight shots. In the first half, each team struggled to create offensive flow, with shots tied at 4-4.

The Tigers had a pair of quality chances in the first half as Wavomba made solid contact on a throw-in, placing a header on target in the 16th minute, but Riddle made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.

Late in the first half, freshman MF Pernille Schulze-Larsen fired a low line drive from outside the box on target, but Riddle was up to the task as the game remained scoreless at the half.

Tigers sophomore goalkeeper Tashia Long made a pair of second half saves for her first shutout.

A crowd of 548 saw the Tigers improve to 1-0-0 on the season, while Nevada falls to 0-1-0.

Pacific will visit Palo Alto on Sunday, for a contest with No. 2 Stanford at 1 p.m. The Cardinal, the national runner-up last season, opened the season with a 4-0 win over Penn State and defeated Pacific 4-0 in Palo Alto last season. The Tigers picked up a 2-1 win over the Cardinal in spring ball.
