STOCKTON, Calif. – On an unusually hot evening, the Pacific women's soccer team battled throughout Thursday at Knoles Field, ultimately falling to Cal Poly, 4-1.
The Tigers (0-7) showed fight after trailing by a goal at halftime, answering the visitors' second-half surge with a goal from senior
Kaya Rosa. The Mustangs (3-2-2) added three second-half goals, however, to secure the victory.
Rosa notched her second goal of the 2026 campaign, and her first since the season opener at Sacramento State.
Freshman goalkeeper
Ava Wells was tested early and kept the Tigers within striking distance all night.
The Mustangs eventually broke through in the 40th minute when Miah Thomas converted a penalty kick to give Cal Poly a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
As Cal Poly doubled its lead in the 67th minute when Sophia Minnite found the back of the net, the Tigers responded just 54 seconds later as Rosa put Pacific on the scoreboard in the 68th minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Mustangs answered with a pair of goals of their own, with Isis Salazar-Ortega scoring in the 72nd minute before Ruby Casey added another in the 78th minute to make it 4-1, which stood as the final result.
Despite the final score, the Tigers continued to compete until the final whistle. Pacific finished with seven total shots, including two on goal, while Wells made three saves in the Pacific goal.
Of note, sophomore
Carly Hall made her first collegiate start in the lineup. She played 35 minutes.
Pacific will quickly turn its attention to its next opportunity at Knoles Field. The Tigers host Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday at noon for Senior Day, where
Whitney Garn,
Kaya Rosa,
Shay Clark,
Drew Novaes and
Zoe Shepherd will be honored in a post game ceremony.
