Stanford, Calif. - Playing in what became their final game of the 2011 season, the Pacific softball team suffered a 11-1 (5 inn.) loss to No. 16 Nebraska on Saturday, May 21, at the 2011 NCAA Regionals. The loss brought to a close a historic campaign for the Tigers as they fell to 37-19 overall on the year while the Huskers improved to 40-13.

Playing in the first elimination game of the Stanford Regional, the Tigers got off to a rough start and could never recover as the Huskers used a potent offensive attack, especially with two outs, to put Pacific on the defensive right away. Using 11 early hits in the first three innings of play, the Huskers jumped out front of the Tigers 11-0 to put Pacific in a hole they could not dig out of.

After giving up a run in the first, the Tigers saw the Huskers post five runs in the top of the second, getting a solo one-out home run from Madison Drake while tacking on four more runs with two outs in the inning. Picking up three of the four RBI in the inning were the Edwards twins who each picked up RBI singles in the inning with Tatum Edwards grabbing two after having posted the first RBI of the game in the first.

With a 6-0 lead to work with, the Huskers put the game out of reach in the top of the third when they added five more runs to their game total to bring their lead to 11. The big hit of the inning came from Brooke Thomason as the right fielder lifted a three-run home run over the right-center wall to cap off the scoring.

For Pacific, the lone score of the game came in the bottom of the third when junior Nicole Matson blasted her 11th home run of the year to put the Tigers on the board. Matson's home run pushed her season RBI total to 50, making her just the second Tiger in program history to post 50 RBI in a single season.

The Tigers has a few other chances to push runs across the plate in the game as they loaded the bases in the first, but Ashley Hagemann, Nebraska's starting pitcher, was able to work her way out of the jam unscathed. In the fifth, the Tigers put runners on first and second after back-to-back singles by freshman Megan Foglesong and sophomore Nikki Armagost, but once again Hagemann kept the Tigers out of the scorebook to end the game. 

Hagemann, who improved to 30-12 on the year with the win, threw all five innings for the circle as she gave up four hits and one walk while recording seven strike outs.

Of the 11 hits relinquished to the Huskers, seven were given up by Armagost as the sophomore fell to 19-11 in the circle after being tagged for six runs in just 1.2 innings of work. Redshirt-sophomore Gabby McDaniel, who medically retired from the team at the conclusion of the game, pitched two innings of scoreless, hitless relief after coming into the game in relief of freshman Tori Shepard.

Foglesong finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate as she was the Tigers' top hitter at the regional with three hits total in the two games. For Armagost, the single in the fifth was her 65th of the season, a mark which pushed the sophomore onto the single-season hits list and into a tie for No. 9 all-time.
