Week 9 Notes - at UC Davis

Battling for control at the top of the conference, the Tigers head North to take on regional rival UC Davis in a three-game Big West series on April 9-10. Pacific enters the weekend at the top of the standings just one week into play and is arguably the conference's hottest team having won seven of its last 10 contests including a pair of top-25 wins. For the Aggies, UC Davis took its opening series against Cal State Northridge in a battle of the reigning champs from a season ago.

Last season the Aggies took the series from the Tigers, 2-1, to improve their overall record against Pacific to 8-14 all-time. Despite the recent history between the two teams the 2011 Tigers have proven to be a different beast and have been on a roll as of late including a 2-1 series win against Long Beach State last week to open conference play. Additionally, the Tigers took down No. 23 Fresno State, 5-4, on Tuesday, outlasting the Bulldogs in 11 innings for their second straight victory over a top-25 team. A week prior Pacific defeated No. 8 Cal, 13-2, in five innings at Bill Simoni Field. Overall, Pacific is 22-12 on the year, its best record through 34 games since the 2007 season.

On the other side of the field, the Aggies enter the weekend at 17-14 overall and 2-1 in the Big West. UC Davis suffered a setback on Wednesday heading into the series with the Tigers as the Aggies suffered a 5-4 loss at the hands of San Jose State in San Jose, Calif. After leading 4-0 early in the contest, the Aggies gave up five unanswered runs over the final three innings of play to drop its contest with the Spartans.
