Week 10 Notes - vs. Santa Clara
For the first time in the history of the Pacific softball program the Tigers will host a home game at night as Pacific will take on Santa Clara at 7:00 pm at Bill Simoni Field on Tuesday, April 12. Under the newly erected lights the Tigers and the Broncos will face off for the second time in 2011 and the 80th time in their program histories.
Pacific won the first meeting of the year between the two teams, 11-1, back on February 26 in the Tigers first game of the 2011 Libby Matson Tournament. In the contest, newly minted Big West Pitcher of the Week Nikki Armagost took the win in the circle as she pitched four scoreless innings of the five inning run-rule contest. At the plate, the Tigers offense got off to a hot start as it scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to take all of the intrigue out of the game before it had a chance to really begin.
For the Tigers, that early season success has translated into an impressive year as they enter the midweek contest 24-13 overall and sitting at the top of the Big West standings. The Tigers have won seven of their last 10 games a mark which includes wins over a pair of top-25 teams during midweek contests over the last two weeks. On the other side, the Broncos enter the game at 6-13 overall, but did pick up a split in their PCSC opening series with Cal State Bakersfield winning two of four contests.
