March 6, 2009

Box Score

Reno, Nev. - After breaking out to a 1-0 lead, the Pacific softball team couldn't keep things going, dropping a 9-1 decision to Nevada in five innings on Friday, Mar. 6 in the first game for both teams in the Wolfpack Classic.

The loss dropped the Tigers 6-9 on the season, while Nevada moved to 13-9.

The Tigers got off to a quick start as senior Casey Goldsand (Scottsdale, Ariz.) beat out an infield single to start off the top of the first inning. One out later, sophomore Nicole Matson (Castaic, Calif.) reached on an error, then sending Goldsand to third. The next batter, freshman Amanda Collier (Sparks, Nev.) bounced a ball off the glove of the first basemen to bring home Goldsand. The Tigers went on to load the bases on the third Wolfpack error of the inning, but a double play ended Pacific's threat.

Leading 1-0 in the top of the first inning, the Tigers saw Nevada answer with seven runs on seven hits.

Nevada went on to add two more runs in the bottom of the third and went on to take the game, 9-1.

Nevada's Katie Holverson earned the win (7-6) as she allowed one run (unearned) on five hits and two walks in five innings.

Pacific senior Chelsea Engle (Folsom, Calif.) suffered the loss (3-5) giving up three runs on three hits. Engle was lifted following the third batter in the first inning.

Matson led the Tigers offensively with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 10 a.m. against Southern Utah in the second game for both teams at the Wolfpack Classic.
