No. 14 Pacific Outscored by No. 3 Stanford

Stockton, Calif. - No. 14 Pacific was defeated by No. 3 Stanford, 13-6. With the loss Pacific fell to 12-9 on the season and the Cardinal improved to 14-2 on the year.

The Tigers held Stanford scoreless until the 3:35 mark when Drac Wigo of Stanford notched the first goal of the contest. Stanford went on to shutout Pacific 3-0 to end the first quarter as the Tigers could not take advantage of their scoring opportunities and find the back of the cage.

The Cardinal won the sprint to start the second quarter and Drac Wigo gave Stanford the three point advantage at 6:37 with his second goal of the game. Sophomore Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) notched his first goal of the contest to put Pacific on the board with 5:02 remaining in the quarter. The Tiger defense stepped up limiting the Cardinal to one goal while senior David Andrus (Houston, Texas) recorded three saves for the Tigers in the cage. Pacific trailed Stanford 4-1 to end the half.

To start the third quarter, Stanford regained the three point advantage at the 7:01 mark on Travis Noll's first goal of the game. The Cardinal quickly tallied its fifth goal 28 seconds later to take the 6-1 lead. Freshman Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) notched his first goal of the contest with 5:33 left on the clock to make it a 6-2 contest. Sophomore Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) followed up notching a goal less than one minute later to cut Stanford's lead to three. Stanford pulled away in the third quarter, notching five goals to take the 9-3 lead.

In the fourth frame, Drac Wigo of Stanford tallied his sixth goal of the game at the 7:10 mark to put Stanford up 10-3, but freshman Balazs Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) responded 13 seconds later to cut the lead to six. The Cardinal took the 12-4 lead on back-to-back goals by Janson Wigo and Drac Wigo, but Pacific responded on back-to-back goals by junior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) and Morrison to make it a 12-6 game. Jacob Smith tallied Stanford's final goal with 1:01 remaining in regulation to make the final score 13-6.

Pacific continues action Sunday, Oct. 25, as the Tigers travel to Los Angeles to take on the UCLA Bruins at 1 p.m.
